Course Overview

Level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training within the Private Security Industry (Elite Model)
This qualification has been developed to meet the requirements of tutors who work within the private security industry and need to deliver training in physical intervention skills.
The qualification is supported by both the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and Skills for Security (SfS). Subjects covered include dynamic risk assessing, legislation relevant in the use of physical intervention, escorting techniques, managing and monitoring a person’s safety, responsibilities during medical emergencies, good practices to follow after physical interventions and effective communication techniques.

On successful completion of the course candidates will be given the full Elite Training Pack. This pack is provided under a licence which will enable you to deliver the Level 2 Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry programme through any of the SIA recognised awarding bodies.

  • PowerPoint slides
  • PDF student workbook
  • All relevant administrative resources

Course content

By the end of the programme candidates will be able to:

  • Assess the training environment to reduce risks in preparation for physical intervention training
  • Safely and effectively manage the learning environment for physical intervention skills
  • Deliver instruction in physical intervention skills
  • Assess physical intervention skills

Note: It is an industry requirement that candidates undertake an annual refresher training to maintain certification.

This qualification can be combined with DCMT and DPIT (see Combined Instructor Course).

What are the pre course requirements?

  • Successful completion of a Level 3 Education & Teaching course (or equivalent)
  • Successful completion of a Level 3 Conflict Management Trainers course.

What is the assessment method?

It is divided into 2 units and is assessed by the following methods:
Unit 1: Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry
Assessed in two parts. Part 1 is a practical test and part 2 is a written test set by Highfield. Learners must achieve a 100% pass mark in both tests.

How long does it take to achieve this qualification?

The qualification is divided into 2 units and is assessed by the following methods:
A minimum of 2 days, in accordance with a learner’s needs and/or local circumstances.
